Interpreters/Translators

  • Temporary
  • Anywhere

Bridge language barriers and transform lives with flexible, meaningful work that makes a real difference in your Cornwall community.

You know that feeling when someone finally understands you?

You’ll be the reason that happens.

Every day in Cornwall, people attend medical appointments, school meetings, or council sessions where they struggle to be heard. Not because they have nothing to say, but because English isn’t yet their strongest language. That’s where you come in.

As an interpreter, you’ll make sure nothing gets lost in translation. You’ll help people explain symptoms to doctors, understand legal advice, or talk with social workers about their children. You’ll give people a voice and help professionals do their jobs properly. It’s rewarding, varied, and genuinely useful work.

You’ll work when needed, not to a fixed schedule. That makes it ideal if you prefer flexibility or already have other commitments. Some work is remote, but most is face-to-face in communities across Cornwall. Own transport is essential.

You’ll be paid properly for your time and effort:

  • £26.78 per hour
  • £40.17 per hour for overtime
  • £43.26 per 500 words for written translations

We also reimburse your travel, parking, and fuel at 45p per mile.

To do the job, you’ll need to be fluent in English and one of these languages:
Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, Czech, Hindi, Malayalam, Mandarin, Pashto, Punjabi, Sinhala, Slovak, Tamil, Ukrainian or Urdu.

Ideally, that second language is your mother tongue. You’ll translate both ways from English to your language and back again so accuracy and clarity are everything. You might also be asked to translate written documents from or into English depending on the client’s needs.

You’ll meet people from every background imaginable. Doctors, Health Visitors, council officers, teachers, parents, patients. Sometimes the work is light, sometimes it’s serious. Either way, you’ll leave knowing you’ve made a difference.

This isn’t corporate jargon or a “fast-paced environment”. It’s a real job that helps real people.

If you’re based in Cornwall and want flexible, meaningful work that fits around your life, we’d love to hear from you.
